The Toulouse Road at Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert

The Toulouse Road divided after Saint-Gilles. One route continued along the old Roman road, the Via Domitia. A second route led into the rugged terrain of the Cévennes to the abbey of Gellone where pilgrims could venerate the relics of Saint Gillaume d’Orange and Frankish paladin from the days of the emperors Charlemagne and Louis the Pious. One of the most revered of all the heroes of Chansons de Geste. For the page on Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert click here.
